Global Village program

Habitat for Humanity International’s Global Village trips give participants a unique opportunity to become active partners with people of another culture. Team members work alongside members of the host community, raising awareness of the burden of poverty housing and building decent, affordable housing worldwide. As partners, team members help build a true “global village” of love, homes, communities and hope!

Thrivent Builds Worldwide
A joint effort of Habitat for Humanity International and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, modeled after Global Village trips. This is an opportunity for Lutherans to express their faith with partial trip funding for Thrivent Financial members. Be sure to check out trip opportunities offered through Thrivent Builds Worldwide.

Featured Global Village trips
Lujan, Argentina – August 16-September 1, 2008
Our team will be hosted by the Habitat affiliate in Lujan, Argentina, one of the oldest settlements in the country and about 40 miles west of Buenos Aires. In addition to our building activities, we will spend a weekend at an estancia (ranch) where we will learn about the life of the Gaucho. After completing our work, we will return to Buenos Aires where we will tour the city, attend a tango show and visit several markets. Come join us!

Mozambique – October 4-17, 2008
Help create a sanctuary for the world’s most vulnerable children by joining this build in Mozambique.

Papua New Guinea – September 17-28, 2008
Join us for an exciting build in the beautiful South Pacific. This is an excellent opportunity to stay in a small village, and to work with friendly people and learn about their unique and colorful culture.

Disaster response in China and Myanmar
Since Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar and an earthquake devastated China, the Global Village department has received numerous calls from volunteers asking how they can help. You can help today by directing a donation to Habitat’s disaster response for Myanmar or China.

If you are interested in physically helping rebuild communities, please join one of our Global Village teams. They are frequently teams traveling to areas impacted by natural disasters, including countries hit by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami — or to the U.S. Gulf Coast communities rebuilding after hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
